FDI Policy in India: Legal Perspective

Subsequent to the economic liberalisation reforms in the year 1991, the scope of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India has been extended to foster economic development and thus, the Government devices the Indian FDI policy in a manner conducive for international investments.

In India, the Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) are covered under the following legislations i.e.

  1. Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) of 1999
  2. Foreign Exchange Management (Transfer or Issue of a Security by a Person Resident Outside India) Regulations, 2017
  3. Competition Act of 2002
